Baltimore Streetcar Museum
The Baltimore Streetcar Museum is a small streetcar museum focusing mainly on Baltimore streetcars (and recently, some from Philadelphia). It is located in the Station North section of Baltimore on Falls Road, down in the Jones Falls valley. The trackage was part of the Maryland & Pennsylvania Railroad until it ceased operating in the 1950s. Although founded in 1954, the museum has been in this location since 1966.
Highlights of the collection:
- Car 417, a circa-1888 car that was operated by horse power, cable power, and electric over its lifespan
- Car 554, an open-sided Brownell Car Co. streetcar from 1896 (there are only around five Brownell cars in existance, and the BSM has three)
- Car 264, a convertible car and another Brownell Car. Co, this example from 1900
- Car 1164, open-sided Brill Company car from 1902
- Car 4533, single truck Birney Safety Car from 1904
- Car 6119, Brill Company "Peter Witt" style streetcar from 1930, an early example of streamline modernization
- Car 7407, Pullman-Standard PCC from 1944, the last streetcar retired from the streets of Baltimore in November, 1963
- Cars 2168, 2187, ex-SEPTA (Philadelphia) St. Louis Car Company PCC cars from 1948.
The BSM collection includes two more PCC cars (one ex-Newark, ex-Twin Cities; and one ex-El Paso); several buses and trackless trolleys, vintage work equipment, and several other streetcars. An exhibits hall and streetcar rides round out the visitor experience.
