Overview
The Old Pueblo Trolley is a nonprofit museum group which operates historic electric streetcars along University Blvd. and 4th Avenue in Tucson, Arizona. The line begins south of 8th Street along 4th Avenue, near the carbarn. Heading north on 4th Avenue, the route has an Old Town feeling -- historic and scenic. The 4th Avenue and University Boulevard business districts have many shops and restaurants. The terminal near the University of Arizona main gate is convenient to a hotel and the Arizona Historical Society. The line is part of Tucson's former street railway system, and the restored line demonstrates the Old Town of yesteryear.
Roster
The Old Pueblo Trolley Fleet is headed up by Kyoto, Japan City Lines #869, built in 1953. Originally a two-man car, with four doors one in each corner, the car underwent several modifications during its time in Kyoto, including the addition of a center door on the left side. In 1972 the car was sold to the Hankai, Japan Electric Tramway and numbered #255, and finally retired in 1992 and sold to Old Pueblo Trolley. During 1994 and 1995 the car was restored to its initial Kyoto appearance, minus the center door as originally constructed.
Car 1511, from the Societe des Transports Intercommunaux de Bruxelles (Brussels, Belgium's tramway operator), was built in 1936 and had a long journey to Tuscon. It was restored during the period 1996-2002, but is temporarily out of service in the carbarn being repaired after a minor collision.
The Old Pueblo Trolley collection also includes; Toronto TTC PCC (#4608), operable but not in service; Los Angeles Railways trams 733 and 860, so-called "Huntington" cars; 860 will be painted for Douglas, Arizona when restored (Douglas had similar cars, of which none survive); the other is for parts); Lisbon, Portugal 1924 Brill single truck tram 524; all awaiting further restoration. The OPT collection also includes a number of rubber-tired diesel buses.
