Overview
Monterrey, in the Northeast of Mexico, is the third largest city in Mexico and the capital of the state of Nuevo León. It has a population of 4,000,000, in conurbation with Santa Catarina, Guadalupe and San Nicolas.
The east-west Line 1 was opened in two stages; Exposición - San Bernabé in 1994, and San Bernabé - Talleres in 2003. Line 1 is 19.5 Km (12.1 miles) long, with 19 stations (1 at grade, 18 elevated).
The north-south Line 2 was opened in three stages; General Anaya - General Zaragoza in 1994, General Anaya - Universidad in 2007, and Universidad - Sendero in 2008. Line 2 is 13.0 Km (8.1 miles) long, with 13 stations (7 underground and 6 elevated). The transfer point between the two lines is at Cuauhtémoc. In addition to names, each station is identified with a symbol (similar to the metro lines in Mexico City and Guadalajara).
The Monterrey Subway is fed by some BRT lines in the stations Talleres (3 lines) and Exposicion (1 line) of the line 1 and the stations Sendero (3 lines) and San Nicolas (2 lines) of the line 2.
