Flying Home Harlem Heroes and Heroines, Faith Ringgold (1996)

Inspired by a Lionel Hampton composition, [Flying Home Harlem Heroes and Heroines by Faith Ringgold is] an array of performers, painters, sports heroes, artists, writers, musicians, civil rights activists, and religious leaders appear to be flying joyfully through the air. Ringgold's piece connects with those of at 116th and 135th Sts. creating a three-chapter story of Harlem history. Source: nyc.gov.

Faith Ringgold is a painter, mixed media sculptor, performance artist, writer and teacher. She received BS and MFA degrees from City College, City University of New York and is now a professor of art at the University of California San Diego. Source: cuny.edu.
