Artists Vito Acconci and Helene Brandt's installation at 161st St/Yankee Stadium station consists of mosaic glass and tile murals, "updated" IND tile elements, and seating elements in mezzanine and platform area.
Vito Acconci's Wall-Slide offers a playful dislocation of the walls of the station.... [in some] areas dislocated walls create seating. It even erupts onto the sidewalk outside the station next to the McDonald's. [some parts reveal] Helene Brandt's trompe-l'oeil mosaic Room of Tranquility [which] suggests an extension of the station floor and transposes the trees and sky outside... [creating] the illusion of depth. The project invites an exploration of the subway station as an archaeological site. Source: cuny.edu.
