34th Street/Penn Station (IRT West Side Line)

34th Street/Penn Station Station · Opened 6/3/1917

34th Street / Penn Station is an express station in an unusual configuration: 3 platforms. There's a center island platform for the express trains and two side platforms for the locals. Due to the proximity of Times Square and anticipated passenger traffic, the transfer between express and local was discouraged by the layout. The fare control is in the lower mezzanine which serves as the exit to Penn Station. There is an additional fare control on the northbound local platform leading directly to the street. Mosaics include "Pennsylvania", "To Penna RR", "to 34th St." and "to Uptown and Downtown" express trains.
